Welcome Message from General Secretary

Welcome to the website of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches. Founded in 1964, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches is a fellowship of 26 Christian denominations and 10 para-church organisations that confess the Lord Jesus Christ as God and Saviour according to the scriptures. Through our members we are represented in all parts of Zimbabwe. We are also part of a large family of national and international networks of likeminded church and civil society organisations that work tirelessly to make the world a better place.

In a world where there is increasing fragmentation within and among organisations including those that profess to be Christian our mission is to promote Christian unity and at the same time celebrate our rich diversity.

Our mission includes facilitating and encouraging churches in Zimbabwe to carry out their evangelistic and developmental activities according to Biblical principles. We also provide a forum for churches in their common work of leadership development towards liberation, reconciliation, justice, peace, human development and rights. We also carry out our prophetic mandate through advocacy at all levels and capacity building of churches and communities.

This year 2014 we celebrate 50 years of ecumenical service to the nation. This indeed is a great milestone where we say Ebenezer “thus far the Lord has taken us” (1 Samuel 7:12). We have gone through moments of joy and sorrow, successes and failures. What has been a permanent feature in our existence is the hand of God that has guided us through the highs and lows. We hold the conviction that God loves Zimbabwe Council of Churches. We are a learning organisation and look to the future in faith and hope. Our Golden Jubilee theme aptly captures our aspirations:
“Faithful God, living God, guide us to a blessed future” (Deuteronomy 7:6).

God bless you.
